Linking and Saving Memories by SMS
Link a phone number to Memory Currents, then save Memories by text.
Text a thought, keep a Memory
The easiest way to remember something is often to text it. Once you link a phone number, you can save a thought by sending it to your Memory Currents number — no app to open, no sign-in.
Link a phone
Open Channels → SMS in Memory Currents. The page shows the Memory Currents number to text, and the phones you have already linked.
Add the number you want to link. Memory Currents shows a short code, the number to text, and when the code expires. You can copy both the code and the Memory Currents number, which helps when you are using one device to add the number and another to send the text.
Send the code from the phone you are linking, then come back to this page. The row updates on its own while it waits, and reads Active once the code arrives.
You can link more than one number. Texts from your linked active numbers go to the same collection. The page shows the last state Memory Currents recorded; check your library to confirm a particular text was saved.
If the code expires
A verification code lasts an hour. Each pending row shows its own deadline, and once that passes the row says the code expired. Choose Try again for a fresh one — the old code stops working, so if you texted it late, text the new one instead.
Removing a number, and adding it back
Choose Remove beside a phone number to unlink it. Removing a number stops future texts from being saved and leaves every Memory it already captured exactly where it is. You can add the same number again later and verify it the same way.
Saving Memories by text
Once a number is active, text anything you want to store to the Memory Currents phone number. It will appear as a Memory with the rest of the Memories you have saved.
Some words are instructions, not notes
Some short messages are instructions rather than notes. If you want to keep one of these words by itself, put it in a sentence instead:
- STOP turns that number off.
- START turns it back on.
- HELP asks for instructions instead of saving a note. A reply may be unavailable.
Your carrier may treat other words — such as CANCEL, QUIT, or UNSUBSCRIBE — the same way. A sentence that happens to include one of these words is still saved. After sending one of these, check the Channels page to see where the link landed.
What a text does not carry
Photos and attachments are not saved. If you text a picture with a few words, the words are kept and the picture is not. A text with no words at all leaves nothing to save.
Check that a Memory arrived
There is no text receipt when a Memory is saved. Verification or help replies may be available, but silence after sending a note is not confirmation that it arrived. Look for the Memory in your collection, and return to Channels → SMS when you want to check a number.
Memory Currents does not charge for text messages. Your mobile provider may.
